Fire & Rescue’s Gary Poolman to run for Chinese earthquake victims.

Fire & Rescue’s advertising man, Gary Poolman will take to the streets of Liverpool and take part in the World Firefighting Games in August.

Gary will attempt to complete the half marathon and raise money for the Beichuan fire service, one of the worst hit areas of the recent earthquake. He is hoping to raise enough money to supply the Beichuan fire service with new rescue equipment.

This will be the first time Gary has run in any marathon and he is hoping not to finish last. “In fact there is an old Chinese saying that says a journey of a 1000 miles starts with a small step.” Gary goes on to say, “I’ll get round eventually but the real motivation is to get some new rescue equipment for the Beichuan fire service.”

In a twist to the story Gary has also agreed with the games to run in the games mascot costume of a Liver bird which is the symbol of Liverpool. “The good thing is that no one knows me in Liverpool so it’s not so bad,” Gary says.

The world firefighting game takes place for 10 days from the 24th of August. Gary will run the half marathon on the 26th of August. If you would like to sponsor Gary and help him in quest to buy some new rescue equipment then please email him at g.poolman@hgluk.com

We will be of course following his progress so watch this space for pictures and news.
